This week at Toastmaster’s marked our last meeting of 2020! It’s been a challenging year, but that didn’t stop us celebrating this milestone meeting in style, supported by the charismatic Chris Wood as our Toastmaster. Chris fired up the meeting with an inspirational quote which reminded us that the feeling of risk, uncertainty and emotional exposure we may feel when speaking in public is a marvellous example of courage.
First up were short, improvised speeches, known as table-topics. With Sarah Bergin as our table topic master, our speakers took on the role of professional photographers and told the story behind some of the most iconic photos throughout history. Congratulations to all of the speakers and thanks to Sarah for such an innovative approach to table topics. Ga Lok Chung delivered an exceptional evaluation of each of the table topic speakers.
Next, we moved onto the prepared speeches:
- Jonty Rooke gave us an inspiring speech titled “A Mentor Is For Life, Not Just For Christmas“.
- Malcolm Pope delivered his bizarre and entertaining speech “Humanity’s unlikely source of salvation“
- Cristelle Delaporte delivered a humorous and personal speech called “Not a Rom Com“
Thank you and congratulations to all of our speakers for delivering such entertaining and well-delivered speeches.
Our evaluators delivered descriptive and helpful reviews to help the speakers learn and improve. A big thanks to Rolf Merchant, Charlotte Wiseman, and Jack Rowson for taking these important roles and doing a great job!
The last item of the agenda is always to announce the winners. Congratulations to:
Mosh for the best table topic – it’s always great to see a guest do so well at table-topics!
Charlotte Wiseman for the best evaluation.
Malcolm Pope for the best prepared speech.
Thanks to everyone for a great meeting, and for making 2020 a successful year at Toastmasters despite all of the challenges thrown at us. Our next meeting with will be Tuesday, 5th January 2021. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
