A busy meeting on July 31st with over 50 people attending including; longstanding members, first time guests and international visitors from Toastmasters China and France
Cristelle Delaporte (Club President) kicked us off with some interesting perspectives on the process of learning “practice vs time”
Shamim Ahmed was our Toastmaster for the evening and led us through a well competed table topics discussion on “flights” devised by Daniel Klein and 4 high quality prepared speeches which made for difficult decision making, we heard from;
- Ravi Kunda “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover” – sharing an experience he’d had with difficult colleague
- Laura Briggs “Don’t follow your passion” – fantastic icebreaker speech reminding us that passion must be cultivated
- Esther Cho “The power of introverts in a world that can’t stop talking” – drawing inspiration from Bill Gates, JK Rowling & Abraham Lincoln
- Raoul Li-Everington “I’m a failure” – reminding us of the importance of vocal variety ‘pace, power, pause and pitch’ with some candid references to his adolescent youth
Congratulations to the winners on the evening and thank you to Tom Hardcastle (General Evaluator) who joined us from Toastmasters Cheltenham
