A Happy Bank holiday to all of our Toastmasters, it started sunny, went cloudy and today we enjoyed some brief stormy weather.
It’s the 5th Tuesday of the the month, so 3 for 2 offer in terms of meetings this month.
Our Toastmaster this evening was Swati, she is an experienced Toastmaster from another country who has now settled into London and joined our most rock n’ roll club.
Time was monitored by Hugh, back from organising a number of Engineer conferences in Ireland.
Graham was our Table Topics Master, using the theme of change and new opportunities as the basis for impromptu speaking for our members and guests.
Ga Lok was our Topics Evaluator; giving encouragement and feedback to all 4 table topics – Fantastic responses from people this evening.
Dimos; introduced our new guests for the evening.
We had 3 great speeches tonight which included 2 advanced speeches at the start of the second half (their speech evaluators in brackets):
- Brad – “Plans are nothing; planning is everything” – an entertaining speech including mishaps with jobs and visas (Paul)
- Ga Lok– “Picking up the phone” – A personal story regarding the 30th anniversary of ChildLine (Marcelo)
- Charlotte– “Talkin’ ’bout my generation” – A #5 Your Boady Speaks speech project on the EU vote and how economists once envisioned the workforce working less due to automation and robots (Brad)
It was an interesting evening of diverse speeches.
Congratulations this evening to Nigel (guest now turned member!) who won best Table Topic, Brad who won the double Best Speaker + Evaluator award, and Charlotte who was finally presented her icebreaker ribbon though she is becoming a fantastic speaker now on speech #5.
Next meeting Tues 7th June, plus on Tues 5th July, Ga Lok will be delivering his evaluation workshop. Learn how to deliver great feedback in speeches and professionally. This will be in place of the regular meeting.
