Farewell 2021 – Hello 2022 & Open House Event!

As we wave farewell to 2021 and embrace 2022 with positivity and enthusiasm for the year ahead, lets take a moment to reflect on how we rounded up 2021 at City of London Toastmasters – in my own humble opinion, we smashed it!

Our final Church meeting in 2021 was held on Tuesday 7th December, and (how many times have you heard me say this) it was truly a special meeting. I really do mean it though, as we had none fewer than six speeches – six!

First we heard two excellent ice breaker speeches from Jack Tomlin and Patricia Peitz, followed by Zlata Lobotskaya with her speech ‘The mysterious giant’. After the break we heard from Ranjitha Justin with her speech ‘Plan N’, followed by ‘A story about a story’ from Scott Malby, and finally we heard Scott Baker’s speech ‘CSR’.

It was truly an action packed meeting, but one also tinged with a hint of sadness. Our guest president for the evening, was none other than Christine Harris, a member of City of London Toastmasters for many years, and former club president. This was to be her last Church meeting with COLTM, before she returns to live in her native home of Canada. Sad, but also a celebration of how much she has contributed to our club over the years, helping to shape the club into what is has become today. We thank Christine and wish her all the best in her next adventure, and remind her that there will always be a pew waiting for her at St Botolph’s Church.

Our final FINAL meeting of the year was our online club meeting on Tuesday 21st December. Going out with a bang, we had speeches from Marvin Ekwenugo (‘Lessons from the letter’), Ga Lok Chung (‘ABC of networking’), and Olga Galaiko (’Toastmasters as therapy’) – a sensational set of speeches and table topics that took us nicely to the end of the toastmasters year.

A huge thank you to all the hard working members who took roles and made both meetings possible, and of course to our speech, table topics and evaluator winners – well done everyone!

2022 is set to be another action packed year for toastmasters, but have you thought about your own personal goals? What would you like to achieve this year to further your skills and experience in public speaking and leadership? Well, a good place to start would be to attend our special annual open house event, taking place on Tuesday 18th January from 6.30pm at our St Botolph’s Church venue.
