City of London Toastmasters April 30th

A packed agenda on April 30th hosted by our Toastmaster Marcelo Prado

Bhavan Ramanathan led us through the table topics round, themed around “a day in the life of……”

  • Donald Trump’s comb
  • A paper clip
  • Tiny extra pocket in the front of your jeans
  • Recycling bin
  • The Queen’s crown
  • An ice cube
  • A toaster

Jonty won this week’s table topics with a humorous (and slightly edgy) account of how this might be used to aid intoxication (which was our word of the day)

Then for the prepared speeches ….

Nelia Ochner delivered an excellent ice breaker called “Me in 4 minutes” which talked about her life growing up in Madeira, family life, education, career moves and move to London

Ryan Joyce summarised a recent talk from “Pitch Perfect, Bill McGowan” passing on the advice he gives to his clients incl; Mark Zuckerberg, Jack Welch and Mary J Blige on their communication and presentation skills

Neha Arora then delivered her icebreaker “This is Who I Am” citing multiple characters and personalities from A Sound of Music to provide some analogies that resonated well with our audience

Matilda Hay then shared her “Growing Pains: Lessons From A Decade” and shared her top 3 pieces of advice when moving from her 20s to 30s

All in all – a high quality session with 3 very strong icebreakers from new members Nelia, Neha and Matilda. Winners on the night were : –

  • Table Topics: Jonty
  • Prepared Speech: Neha
  • Evaluation: Louise

See you all on May 14th …
