April 16th – From First speeches to Final speeches….

City Of London Toastmasters Club Meeting April 16th 2019

Another great meeting at the City of London Toastmasters club where we were graced with first timers taking up new roles and experienced speakers completing their final speech in the manual.

Nick Kyrke-Smith, our pub leader, stepped up for the first time as Toastmaster for the evening and did an excellent job in leading the meeting. Following on from this, Tim Cummins sprung situational questions onto our guests and members. Tom Griffiths provided great feedback to the speakers by giving the table topics evaluation.

After a short networking break, we finally entered the prepared speeches section.

First up was Sabina Catinean who gave us a deep speech on “The Death of Ego”. Our second speaker, Suzy Solley followed this up with the 10th speech in her Competent Communicator Manual named “My brother Chris” which was filled with lots of great audience interaction and engagement. Following on from this was Jon Lam, who stepped up for his first ice breaker speech entitled “Stranded in Japan”. Finally, we saw Caroline Gormley come up to present a new and improved version of her speech “A Mutant Race”.

After hearing the evaluations of each speech, the winners were announced! These were:

1)      Best Table Topics Speaker: Caroline Gormley

2)      Best Prepared Speech Speaker: Jon Lam

3)      Best Evaluator: Samantha Jacobs

Let’s meet again in our next meeting for members and guests (everyone is welcome!) on April 30th, 2019.
