There is never a shortage of weird and wonderful topics at the City of London Toastmasters club and our meeting on April 2nd, 2019 was no different!
Tom Griffiths stepped up for the first time as Toastmaster for the evening and did an excellent job in leading the meeting. Following on from this, Louise Taylor brought out the fun side out from the audience as the Table Topics Master. She teased the audience to tell us their experiences relating to the theme of ‘April Fools Day’. We took a short break after Stefanos Antypas evaluated our six table topics speakers within six minutes!
After a short networking break, we finally entered the prepared speeches section.
First up was Nick Kyrke-Smith who intrigued us with his speech on “The Lonely Lemon”. Our second speaker, Sam Jacobs followed this up with, yet another intriguing speech entitled “Quit While You Are Behind” because why would one ever quit while they are ahead, right? Following on from this was Caroline Gormley, who talked about the intricacies of the Irish race in her speech “A Mutant Race”. Finally, we saw Rachel De Cesaro, who started off her speech entitled “This is Not a Motivational speech” with a very impactful introduction.
Lonely lemons, mutant races and quitting did not bring the mood down as we ended on a high with four winners of the day! These were:
- Best Table Topics Speaker: Tafi
- Best Prepared Speech Speakers: Samantha Jacobs and Rachel De Cesaro
- Best Evaluator: Hannah Redgewell
As our meeting also coincided with Equal Pay Day, Cristelle Delaporte made sure to raise awareness of the importance of the day.
Yes, we do cover a wide array of topics in our meetings!
Let’s meet again in our new accelerator meeting for members on April 11th, 2019. If you are a guest and would like to see our meetings in action, be sure to join us on April 16th, 2019 for yet another great meeting.
