Our club meeting on Tues 5th Feb saw the return of Table Topics (our impromptu speaking round) having enjoyed guest speakers for the last few meetings
Well done to Marcelo Prado who stepped up as Toastmaster relaxing our guests and bringing an entertaining atmosphere and nice flow to proceedings
Our table topics round pondering some of life’s deep and meaningful questions such as “what is your biggest fear” or “what stops you trying something new”
Daniel Klein was the clear winner answering this former question, by nearly ‘passing on his fear to the audience’ – some long pauses and intense eye contact whilst he kept his cool and delivered a composed response
Then onto four prepared speeches;
“Venture into Vietnam” by Ryan Joyce, who spoke about his top 3 experiences incl; Cu-Chi Tunnels, Mountain Canyoning and Deep Sea Fishing
“What am I going to talk about?” by Nicholas Kyrke-Smith who debated whether choice was a good thing in life. Summarised brilliantly when confronting the last lemon left in the supermarket (you had to be there)
“Are Detroit, Dallas and Chicago at the forefront of a crisis?” by Anthony Bitz who educated us on the existential crisis confronting the pension funds in these states
“What is organisational culture, and can you control it?” by Louise Taylor, who completed speech 8 showing us all how visual aids can be used to great effect
Congratulations to our winners on the evening;
- Table Topics = Daniel Klein
- Prepared Speech = Nicholas Kyrke-Smith
- Best Evaluator = Christine Harris
See you all in 2 weeks for our club competition on Feb 19th
