Our club meeting on Tues Jan 29th 2019 was split between some informative training around Pathways and 4 prepared speeches
Huge congratulations to Sarah Bergin who stepped up as Toastmaster, having joined the club (only) 3 months ago, accepting this as her first role, well done!
Sarah then introduced Brad Revell who stole the show with a highly engaging overview of Pathways, bringing more clarity to the Toastmasters education programme, it’s philosophy and 5 simple steps to get going
- Visit Basecamp
- Complete your Self-Assessment
- Select your preferred Path (up to 10 currently)
- Book in your Icebreaker (baseline speech)
- Get familiar with EasySpeak to book further speeches & roles
Then on to the four prepared speeches, including;
Speech 1: “Weekend in January” by Wilfried Ng – a humorous and slightly self-deprecating account of a recent funny weekend
Speech 2: “Purpose” by Marcelo Prado – by contrast a speech with real meaning, quoting Paulo Coelho to say “we all know our life’s purpose, but don’t want to put the work in behind the scenes to achieve it”
Speech 3: “A Winter Holiday in Russia by Daniel Klein – a colourful speech describing a recent trip, exploring Red Square, Kremlin, -15 degrees weather and the fabulous architecture in Moscow incl ‘palaces for people’
Speech 4: “Instant Happiness Boosters” by Cristelle Delaporte – an informative and upbeat speech teaching us 3 easy ways to instantly improve our happiness; smile, look up and breathe (yoga style)
Awards went to Cristelle Delaporte for best speech, Rolf Merchant for best evaluator with Marcelo Prado and Wilfried Ng completing their icebreakers
Word of the day = Oscillate
Congratulations everyone. See you all on Tues Feb 5th
