A great start to 2019 with a full house at St Bodolphs on Tues 15th Jan, with between 50-60 attending split evenly between members and guests
Dami did a fantastic job as Toastmaster, reminding us of his new years resolution focusing on “consistency” – improvement and success are only achieved if you regularly turn up and apply yourself, 80% of the battle!
We were joined by Fabio De Sio who after 8 months at Toastmasters qualified for the world finals in Chicago during 2018. He gave us a perspective on competitive speech ideas, and how to believe in yourself. His secret was turning his weakness (lack of confidence) into a strength in order to “silence bad Fabio”
Remember; “be yourself, believe in yourself and be fabulous”
We then had 3 fantastic prepared speeches from Hannah, Tim and Anthony
Speech 1: Hannah spoke about her new year resolution to find a new job, currently turning to Google as the answer to all her problems
Speech 2: Tim educated us on the “story of money” explaining how bread can be bartered for rice, but not cereal – hence the invention of gold coins (made of chocolate on this occasion – nice props) and more recently Bitcoin as a medium of exchange
Speech 3: Anthony spoke personally about himself, an excellent icebreaker – taking us through some difficulties in childhood before securing a career in finance which was going well until he joined Bear Stearns :-[]
Congratulations to Anthony for winning best prepared speech and Rolf for winning best evaluation. Next club meeting is Jan 29th and we are fast approaching our first club competition of the year on Feb 19th
