What a beautiful way to celebrate our wonderful members than by running a special meeting in honour of Ga Lok’s recent DTM (read: Distinguished Toastmasters) Award and all our members who have completed new levels in their Toastmasters journey.
The meeting was held in a different venue, far from the grand effect of our St Botolph’s Church, but in a well-lit room at The University Of Law (EC1Y 8HQ) near Moorgate. We had the delight to be joined by guests as well as members.
Cristelle, the club president opened the meeting explaining the importance of celebrating our members achievements.
Hugh run an entertaining warm up exercise where each attendee had 20 seconds to explain where they thought Santa had disappeared.
Ga Lok spoke about how we can make the most of our Toastmasters experience by following 7 tips to reach our Toastmasters goals:
- Break your goal into smaller goals
- Get support
- Understand why this goal is important
- Make it easy
- Act before your think
- Reward yourself
- Create a routine
Cristelle presented awards to the following members for their achievements this year:
- Ga Lok, DTM
- Brad, ALB & ACB
- Shamim, ACB
- Sue, CC
- Marcelo, CC
- Rachel, CC
- Charlotte, CC
- Cristelle, CC
- Daniel, Level 1 Pathways
Marcelo, Rachel, Ga Lok, and Daniel who were present to receive their awards shared their experience and learnings from joining City of London Toastmasters.
Rachel shared that what she learned from joining Toastmasters 3 years ago was not only to be a better speaker but to be a better listener and that everyone has a story to share that at Toastmasters we get the chance to hear.
Ga Lok then encouraged us all to take action and make a pledge on our Toastmasters goal for the year ahead. Feel free to print and make your own pledge:
Rachel delivered a very beautiful speech to thank City of London Toastmasters President Cristelle for her efforts in leading the club.
Vijaya then reminded us of the District goal of 1 – 70 – 100
- 1 – Each club commits to support every member in achieving an educational award every year. With Pathways, it is only 4 speeches in a year.
- 70 – As a District we want to retain 70% of our members every year. Why 70%? Because we should aim to retain our members for at least 3 years so that they can fully benefit from what your clubs and Toastmasters have to offer.
- 100 – Every single club – 100% – to have 20+ members to provide a perfect environment for our members to thrive and prosper.
The meeting ended at Curry Leaf East restaurant where we enjoyed a fabulous curry dinner with crackers and enthusiastic conversations.
Thank you all for coming to our very special meeting and making it unforgettable!
