Contest Time!

We all come to Toastmasters to improve our public speaking skills. Many of us started out scared of standing in front of a room with 2 people in it – and have progressed to confidentially giving speeches in front of our whole club. Similarly, our evaluations have gone from a quiet mumble about how the speaker should have used less filler words, to a carefully crafted oratory designed to let the speaker know their all faults in a constructive and positive way.

Once a year you get a chance to put these new found skills to the test…..

This year also sees the splitting up of our current Toastmasters District (District 71) – the UK and Ireland have enjoyed their time together, but are going their separate ways and will start the next year on different paths, and as different districts. That means that this is the last time ever that you have the opportunity to pit these skills agains the whole of the UK & Ireland in one go…..

You head me right – it’s time for the International Speech Contest AND the Evaluation Contest!!!! [cue Cheering! Shouting! Excitement! And a clamour to sign up]

On the 4th March, City of London Toastmasters will be holding their club contest – the first round in this salubrious contest that could see you on the world stage. Why not throw your hat into the ring and represent your club.

For the International Speech Contest, all members with 6 (or more) speeches under their belt can enter.

For the Evaluation contest, ALL members can participate.

Contact Juliette or Monika to reserve your place in the competition. Spaces for these contests usually fill up fast so be sure to do so soon to void missing out on this opportunity.

If you don’t fancy competing this time around, then why not help us out by signing up to perform a role on the night instead? No previous experience necessary as you’ll be fully briefed before you start.

Contact Juliette or Monika to volunteer.

You can also become a judge for the night at another club. No curly white wig or gavel, but you do get to hold the fate of fellow Toastmasters in the balance! Great fun, and an opportunity to make a difference and spread the word at another club. Any member (apart from competitors) can do this with no previous experience needed here also (since a full briefing is give on the night).

Contact Juliette or Monika to volunteer.

It’s looking set to be a great night, so put your name down, help out, or simply come and watch the competitiveness unfold.
